Dr. Luke Is Getting Dropped by Sony Amid Legal Battle with Kesha

Our question is: Why did Sony wait so long?!

It appears Sony is cutting ties with Dr. Luke after months of PR headaches due to Kesha’s highly publicized attempt to get out of her arrangement with the music label.

Sony is reportedly ending its relationship with Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald one full year ahead of his contract’s expiration. Although Kesha was denied an injunction by a judge, the singer’s claims that the producer drugged her and sexually assaulted her, and the subsequent court battle, have plagued Sony with bad press.

In recent weeks, fans and fellow musicians like Kelly Clarkson and Lady Gaga have come to Kesha’s aid, speaking out against Dr. Luke, the judicial system and the record label.

Sony will presumably be seeking to negotiate Dr. Luke’s departure to keep the process mutually beneficial.

UPDATE 1:40 PM PST: Dr. Luke’s attorney released a statement to TMZ on behalf of his client: “Luke has an excellent relationship with Sony. His representatives are in regular contact with executives at the highest levels at Sony, and this has never come up.”
