Charlie Hunnam‘s female fans are…we’re going with “aggressive.”
It’s no secret that the 35-year-old actor has an army of female fans who will defend him online at the drop of a hat. Because Hunnam has such a rabid following, his girlfriend of eleven years, Morgana McNelis, gets a lot of hostility online and Charlie has had enough!
The Pacific Rim actor posted a message to his fans on a Sons of Anarchy Facebook page calling out “immature girls” who are making Morgana’s life difficult. Hunnam defends his longtime girlfriend against the constant attacks.
“It has been brought to my attention that there is a group of immature girls posting a large number of hard messages aimed at my long time girlfriend. I would respectfully ask you to stop doing this. She is an intelligent, beautiful, kind person who just tried to live a simple life and has nothing to do with the entertainment industry,” he said.
The movie star pointed out the confounding fact that it is his fans who are attacking his girlfriend, not random haters online. “What is most confusing is that these negative and totally unprovoked attacks appear to be coming from the people who call themselves my fans. Think about the logic of this for a moment.”
The dutiful boyfriend was candid about the strong relationship he and McNelis have, and asked that his fans ask themselves why they are lashing out at the woman he loves.
“This is a girl I love very much and have spent the last eleven years of my life with and hope to spend the next sixty years. She has been my loyal and supportive partner long before I had any success or money. Why would you attack her out of admiration for me? It makes no sense,” Charlie said. “Perhaps you might think about spending the time you dedicate on attacking her on improving the quality of your own life, as it is well known that this type of random hatred usually comes from deep rooted personal unhappiness.”
Morgana took to her company’s Facebook page to share her thoughts on the hostility she receives online, choosing to focus on those who are supportive.
“I just wanted to say I very deeply appreciate all of the kind words said in my defense. I feel infinite gratitude for all of the support that is being shown towards my relationship and business. The outpouring of positivity gave me courage to keep being vulnerable and to continue to put myself and my designs out into the universe. It’s so encouraging and comforting to know that there are classy, smart, beautiful, compassionate women in this world supporting other women. I couldn’t do this without you ladies,” she wrote.
