The 1975’s Matt Healy Thinks It’s ‘Emasculating’ to Be Taylor Swift’s Boyfriend

Was this why nothing ever happened between Taylor Swift and Matt Healy?

According to The 1975 frontman, he never wanted to seriously date the songstress because he didn’t want to be “emasculated” by her fame. Though the two were romantically linked in 2014 when they were seen wearing each other’s shirts, Healy claimed he would’ve hated being Swift’s boyfriend.

“I feel like I’m not very good at relationships. And the reason I mention that is because if I had [properly] gone out with Taylor Swift, I would’ve been, ‘Fucking hell, I am not being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend,'” he told Q magazine. “You know, ‘Fuck. That.’ That’s also a man thing, a de-masculinating, emasculating thing.”

Swift is currently dating DJ Calvin Harris. The couple recently celebrated their one-year anniversary with a tropical vacation.

Healy, 26, also admitted that while two of them did flirt, Swift was never on his radar as a potential girlfriend.

“I don’t do anything else, so it doesn’t leave a lot of room for me going out or shagging someone,” he said. “So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere … I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, ‘Who’s Matt Healy?’ so that was cool.”

He continued, “But I didn’t make a big deal out of it myself. It’s not really anything to talk about, because if she wasn’t Taylor Swift we wouldn’t be talking about her. She wasn’t a big impact on my life.”

Oof. Guess it’s a good thing that TayTay is now in a happy relationship.
