Zayn Malik Says John Lennon Was Huge Influence for ‘Mind of Mine’

When first venturing out on his solo career, Zayn Malik turned to the Beatles for inspiration. He’s just like us!

The 23-year-old spoke with NME recently where he revealed that a ballad off of his forthcoming album, “Fool for You,” come together while he was spinning a lot of the iconic foursome’s music, especially one song in particular.

“I was listening to a lot of John Lennon the week I got that loop,” Zayn told NME. “And there was this one song I got addicted to, with Indian music at the front of it, sitar, and then it becomes, like, another song,” he said. He was describing the Beatles’ song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”

The “Pillowtalk” singer also explained some of the intent behind his album’s title, Mind of Mine.

“It’s really reflective of the whole experience that I want to give the listener. I wanted it to be almost like a brainstorm. It’s just music and it’s just whatever you’re feeling at that moment in time.”
