Here's a 'Star Wars' bombshell for you.

Now this how you land a role.

A clip of Daisy Ridley’s screen test for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has surfaced. Obtained by Buzzfeed, the footage shows Ridley, who beat out hundreds of actresses to play Rey in the iconic franchise, with tears running down her face as she acts out the torture scene between her character and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

“What we were looking for was someone new, ” director J.J. Abrams explains in a voiceover. “This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking.”

He continues, “It wasn’t until we found Daisy that we just felt like she was capable of doing all of these things this character required.”

Ridley’s audition, which can be seen in Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ HD and Blu-Ray combo pack available April 1 and April 5, immediately captured Abrams’ attention almost immediately, the filmmaker recalls. According to him, Ridley was able to convey Rey’s spirit with little help or direction.

“She just blew my mind. She’s reaching this depth of struggle, and tears are streaming down her face,” Abrams remembers. “I thought, ‘This is unbelievable.'”
