These two actress sisters are also international animal rights activists.

Kate and Rooney Mara recently visited the African nation of Liberia with The Humane Society of the United States.

The two women went on the expedition as part of a follow-up visit to see the 60 chimpanzees that were abandoned there by the New York Blood Center.

For decades, the chimps were used by the NYBC for research but were abruptly left when funding for their care ended a year ago.

As a result, the Mara sisters have taken up the cause of the chimps’ welfare, writing an open letter to the NYBC.
