Celebuzz Cocktail Hour: Ride the Mule Featuring Penthouse Whiskey Tequila from the Natural Mixologist

The Celebuzz and SpinMedia offices had the pleasure of enjoying a tasting from Marsha Meyer, the founder of The Natural Mixologist.

We sipped (some of us guzzled) the Ride the Mule which featured Penthouse Whiskey Tequila, which may sound like an odd combo, but the cocktail was simply delicious! The secret ingredient was the Essential Zest (more on that in a bit).

Meyer shared with us her philosophy and more about The Natural Mixologist.

I founded The Natural Mixologist to share my love of quality crafted cocktails that are made out of organic, local, vegan, gluten free & non-GMO ingredients. Cocktails that are as healthy as they can be and full of beneficial ingredients.

I was inspired by the farm to table movement while living in London and believe that philosophy should not stop at our plate, but should be in our cocktail glass as well. I want to drink as healthy as I eat. So, in addition to using the best quality ingredients, I also fill my cocktails with as many superfoods as I can fit in the glass.

I create custom cocktails for events and I use Essential Zest and other organic, vegan, gluten free, & non-GMO ingredients at all of the private events I cater. I also teach cocktail making classes for the person who wants to make the perfect old fashioned and other classics.

Ms. Meyer will be pouring at the HollyRod Foundation charity event this April 7th hosted by Holly Robinson Peete and Kym Gold (True Religion Jeans) to raise funds for autism awareness.

She will also be the exclusive pourer for the MTV EMAs. To celebrate this, we have having a 7 city Cocktail Competition called “Top Tails” where one winning Bartender and one winning member of public will join us in London for a party and then will accompany us to the MTV awards in Rotterdam. Our partners for this competition will be Tasting Panel Magazine, Clever Root Magazine & Hooch the App that give one free drink a day to its members.

Below are the recipes and info on the Ride the Mule cocktail along with the Sweet Escape.

Ingredients:

2 oz. Penthouse Whiskey Tequila Fusion
1 oz. Essential Zest Mixer* Lime, Lemongrass & Ginger Cordial (Organic)

Garnish:

Sugar, Smoked Salt*, and Chili Pepper Rim
Lime Twist (Organic)
Glass – Double Rocks

Rim half of a glass with a lime wedge, dip in sugar, salt and smoked chili pepper mix, set aside. Add ice to a mixing glass and top with liquor and cordial. Shake thoroughly. Strain over fresh ice in prepared serving glass. Drop lime twist on top of cocktail.

Notes:

Ride the Mule is a take on the classic Mule that has become so popular recently. A Kentucky Mule is made with Bourbon, Lime & Ginger Beer. I wanted to kick this up by using Penthouse’s Whiskey Tequila Fusion. And my Essential Zest Mixer: Lime, Lemongrass & Ginger Cordial pay homage to the original recipe with a zesty, fresh and slightly exotic twist. The sweet and smoky rim compliments the flavors and nose of the Whiskey while the spicy pepper plays so well with the Tequila.

Essential Zest Mixers are crafted by Marsha Meyer, The Natural Mixologist and contain the finest ingredients that are organic, gluten free, vegan and non-gmo.

Smoked Salt – I used Hickory Smoked by Falksalt and Habanero by Jacobsen Salt Co. Both available at William Sonoma.

Whenever rimming a glass with sugar or salt, only rim half of the glass so that you can experience the cocktail both with and without the addition. And be careful not to get the mixture on the inside of the glass. Remember a little goes a long way.

Ingredients:

2 oz. Penthouse Vodka
.25 oz. Dolce Cilento Meloncello
.75 oz. Essential Zest Lime Elixir, made with Lemon Grass & Ginger (Organic)

Glass – Cocktail coupe

Garnish:

Bee Pollen

Add all ingredients to a mixer and shake thoroughly. Double strain into a cocktail glass and sprinkle with bee pollen.

Notes:
