14 Times Taylor Swift Proved She Loves Her Fans

Nobody loves their fans like Taylor

When it comes to pop stardom, Ms. Swift breaks a lot of rules. She has shifted genres, from country to pop, a choice that usually alienates fans. She candidly and unapologetically writes her songs about real relationships, while the rest of the herd tackles open-ended, abstract ideas. But where she really breaks the mold as a pop artist is her relationship with her fans. Taylor knows that her fans are deeply invested in her music and she repays them for that investment constantly.

Let’s take a minute (or several minutes) to remember just a few of the times that the pop songstress showed her fans how much she appreciates them.

1) The singer decided to pop up at a fan’s bridal show in Ohio and celebrate with her family.

2) Taylor helped a fan cope with a one-sided relationship.

Everyone’s felt the burn of unrequited love at some point, but nothing eases the pain quite like a good friend…or Taylor Swift. The singer offered some really thoughtful advice to a girl named Hannah about unrequited love. Here’s Hannah note and Taylor’s response, via Gossip Cop:

There’s a guy Taylor, a guy who’s sweet and charming and makes me laugh. A guy who said sorry for eating in front of me after finding out I had to skip breakfast. A guy who grew up across the street from me. A guy who plays guitar like me. A guy who was my first best friend. A guy who I met when I was seven and he was nine. A guy who this one time, when we were younger, said that I was ‘like’ his girlfriend because I was a girl and his friend. I wish. A guy who I have the biggest crush in the whole wide world on, and he’ll never like me back. (And he has a girlfriend who he adores and she’s pretty and has an amazing figure and is actually nice to me). A guy who will never like me back. @taylorswift can you give me some advice maybe. I love you. Hannah.

Swift’s response:

Hannah. Eyes, eyes, eyes. Woah. You have the prettiest, widest, most child like eyes. (Composes herself) Okay. About this guy. I think we grow up thinking the only love that counts as true love is the kind that lasts forever or is fully realized. When you have a broken heart, the first thing a stranger will ask is ‘how long were you two together?’ As if your pain can be determined by how long you were with someone. Or if you were with them at all. I don’t think that’s how it works. I think unrequited love is just as valid as any other kind. It’s just as crushing and just as thrilling. No matter what happens in this situation, I want you to remember that what you are doing is selfless and beautiful and kind. You are loving someone purely because you love them, not because you think you’ll ever have your affections reciprocated. You are admiring something for its beauty, without needing to own it. Feel good about being the kind of person who loves selflessly. I think someday you’ll find someone who loves you in that exact same way.

3) She bonded with a 7-year-old fan in the hospital.

Prepare for tears. In 2014, Taylor visited a seven-year-old boy named Jordan Nickerson who is fighting a rare genetic disorder called Williams Syndrome. The superstar played air hockey, chatted about Spider-Man and danced around with Jordan. This wasn’t just a photo op, this was Taylor doing what she does best: connecting with people.

4) She had actual fans dance with her in a music video.

Remember Taylor’s “Shake It Off” music video? Well, get this: Taylor had fans (who were already professional dancers) join her in her video. They got the gig by reaching out to Taylor on Twitter and Instagram.

5) Taylor had a listening party with fans…at her home.

What’s better than listening to a brand-new Taylor Swift album? How about listening to it with Taylor in the comfort of her house? Taylor invited fans to a listening party for her album 1989 before it was released.

6) She flew a fan and his family to New York for a four-day trip and concert.

A Canadian boy named Jacob Thomas posted a video showing his love for Taylor and her album 1989. The pop performer was so impressed with Jacob, she asked to meet him when she visited Canada next.

Apparently Taylor couldn’t wait to get to Canada to meet Jacob, so she flew him and his family to New York for four days, which ended with attending her concert at Madison Square Garden.

7) Taylor sent packages to her super fans for Christmas.

One year, Taylor decided to send some of her biggest fans personalized gifts for Christmas (and Hanukkah). The cards were handwritten and the gifts were often personalized.

8) She helped a fan pay off her student loans.

Student loans are a serious source of stress for Millennials, but the financial burden was alleviated for one young woman when Taylor sent her a check for $1,989. The girl’s name is Rebekah Bortniker and she has a Tumblr devoted to everything Taylor.

Apparently a video Rebekah made of Taylor and her friends with the theme song from Friends caught the “Blank Space” singer’s attention. Not only did she help out with her debt, she also sent her an entire box of thoughtful gifts.

9) Taylor helped a fan get through a messy breakup.

Ever written a direct message to a celeb you love, hoping for guidance? Well, if that celeb happens to be Taylor, she might just write back. Right after her boyfriend dumped her via text, a girl named Kasey Andrew reached out to Taylor and asked for advice…and the pop singer responded.

Taylor shared some invaluable wisdom with Kasey.

10) She had a fan and her family come to her New York apartment to bake cookies on Valentine’s Day.

It doesn’t take a lot of guesswork to figure out that a Grammy-award winning singer has plenty she could be doing on Valentine’s Day in the romance department. Instead, Taylor invited a fan and her family to her NY apartment to bake cookies and play with her cat.

11) She got a fan tickets to another concert when they missed their flight, and her show.

Who hasn’t missed a flight or lost a bag? Well, Taylor Swift feels your pain. The performer helped a fan get tickets to a concert after she missed a flight and a T. Swift show.

12) Taylor surprised a fan by crashing their wedding.

It’s not a Swiftie wedding unless Taylor herself shows up to offer her blessing to the newlyweds. That’s right—she lurked on a fan’s social media, found out when and where the wedding was, and just showed up.

13) She donated $50,000 to a fan battling cancer.

Leave it to Taylor to remind us the kind of good powerful people can do if they choose to. In 2015, a young fan named Naomi had to miss a T. Swift concert because she was battling cancer and was too weak to go. Not only did the Taylor donate $50,000 to Naomi’s GoFundMe page, she offered the young girl a personal message:

“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss [my concert], but there will always be more concerts,” wrote Swift. “Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”

14) She donated $1,989 to a fan raising money for charity in college.

Trying to raise money for a good cause? Ms. Swift has a long track record of giving worthy causes her attention. She donated $1,989 to a participant in UConn’s HuskyTHON, a dance marathon to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Oh, and she FaceTimed with the student, an accounting major named Igor Lekontsev.
