WATCH: Technicolor Cowgirls Katy Perry and Dolly Parton Duet at the ACM Awards
Giddy up, y’all.
Honorary country music star Katy Perry joined the legendary Dolly Parton onstage at the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night to perform a medley of her top hits, including “Coat of Many Colors,” “Jolene” and “9 to 5.”
The ladies were introduced by Perry’s former tour mate, Kacey Musgraves, before the “California Girl” presented Parton with the Tex Ritter Award, which recognized the 2015 movie based on her life, Coat of Many Colors.
“I recently tweeted that I was but just one tiny sequin on Dolly Parton’s gown,” said Perry prior to their performance. “I think I’ll say, though, maybe we’re kind of cut from the same lamé because her grandpa was a preacher, my father’s a preacher; we both grew up singin’ and playin’ guitar in church; and we’re both known for some of the biggest songs in our fields.”
