First Teaser Trailer for ‘Doctor Strange’ Is All Kinds of Trippy Awesomeness
Feelin’ a little Strange? Call the Doctor!
He plays Dr. Stephen Strange, a once brilliant and arrogant surgeon whose life is nearly ruined but gets a second chance when he meets a sorcerer named the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who takes him under his wing and trains him to defend the world against evil.
Cumberbatch told Entertainment Weekly last December about casting spells as Doctor Strange, “I’m still in the infancy of learning all that. It was like, okay, I’ve got to keep throwing these poses, these spells, these rune-casting things, everything he does physically. I’m thinking, there’s going to be a huge amount of speculation and intrigue over the positioning of that finger as opposed to it being there, or there. And I’m still working on that. We haven’t played any of those scenes yet. I felt really self-conscious. But, then, by the end, it was great. It’s like anything, you just have to experiment.”
Along with Cumberbatch and Swinton, the film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor is an associate of the Ancient One called Karl Mordo, Mads Mikkelsen has been cast as the movie’s villain, and Rachel McAdams as a fellow surgeon and a link to Strange’s old life.
McAdams also may or may not be a love interest for Doctor Strange. “Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into he role of a sorcerer,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told EW. “She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity.”
