Iman Talks Her ‘Everlasting’ Marriage with David Bowie
Her love will go on.
Iman opened up about her her 24-year marriage to the late David Bowie during a recently episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?. In the sit-down, which was filmed prior to Bowie’s death in January, the model revealed her secret to a long-lasting marriage with someone as iconic as the “Heroes” crooner.
“We both understand the difference between the person and the persona. When we are home we are just Iman and David. We’re not anybody else,” the 60-year-old fashion icon explained.
Iman married Bowie in 1992. Together, they welcomed a daughter named Alexandria Zahra Jones in 2000. Iman is also the mother of Zulekha Haywood and stepmother to Bowie’s son from a previous marriage, filmmaker Duncan Jones.
“You have to be at the right time in your life that you’re ready for an everlasting relationship, that it becomes first and a priority in your life,” she said of how to make a marriage work. “If your career is important to you, don’t get married and have children, because something will give. I know we as women, we want to be able to have it all, but we can’t have it all at the same time. So make your priority of what you want at that time.”
Bowie passed away at age 69 after an 18-month battle with cancer. The singer never spoke about this health publicly and only hinted about his illness to a handful of people in his inner circle.
