Prince Has Died at the Age of 57
The prolific singer Prince has died at the age of 57.
As first reported TMZ and then confirmed by the AP, Prince’s body was found at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early on Thursday morning (Apr. 21). On Apr. 15, it was reported that the singer suffered from a medical emergency that caused his jet to make an emergency landing in Illinois, but Prince resurfaced the next day to appear at his concert. He assured fans that he was fine and his camp said that he was combatting the flu, which caused him to cancel two shows earlier in the month. The official cause of his death has yet to be revealed.
Prince Rogers Nelson’s rise to fame began in 1982 after his first successful album 1999 was released. He was eventually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. Prince was awarded seven Grammys in his lifetime and sold over 100 million records during his career. He also holds an Academy Award for the Best Original Song for “Purple Rain” in 1985. His two latest albums, HITNRUN Phase One and HITNRUN Phase Two were just released in 2015.

Prince was found in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate. Emergency responders unsuccessfully performed CPR and he was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:07 AM local time. [via TMZ]
