Will Smith Spoke to Prince Hours Before His Passing, Aretha Franklin Says it Was Zika

The musician’s friends are still reeling from his shocking death.

Yesterday (Apr. 21, 2016), news of Prince’s untimely death sent shock waves around the world. As celebrities took to social media to express their disbelief, it seems no one was as shocked to hear of the legends passing as Will Smith.

Smith took to Facebook to pay tribute to the prolific singer and revealed he had spoken to Prince just the night before he died, “I am stunned and heartbroken. I just spoke with him last night.”

Smith wasn’t the only person completely taken aback by the rock legend’s passing. Aretha Franklin remembered her dear friend during an appearance on MSNBC, but she wasn’t at all convinced the flu, which his camp said he’d been suffering from the week before, was to blame for his untimely death. “They’re saying flu-like symptoms,” Franklin said. “I’m wondering if it has anything to do with this Zika virus.”

While the zika virus, which is transmitted by mosquitos, has been classified as an epidemic, according to the  CDC symptoms are usually very mild and very rarely result in death.

An autopsy of the musician is scheduled to be conducted today (Apr. 22, 2016).
