A New York Man Was Assaulted Because He Looked Like Shia LaBeouf
Stay safe out there, kids.
A 26-year-old man named Mario Licato was punched in the face over the weekend on Saturday when a fellow citizen mistook him for child-actor-turned-artist, Shia LaBeouf.
“I was walking up the stairs,” Licato recalled to Gothamist. “I had my head down—there were people in front of me—just to make sure I wasn’t going to fall.”
“I didn’t even see the guy, ” he continues. “I just see his fist coming towards me. It knocked me, and while I was falling down the stairs, all I hear was, “This is because you look exactly like Shia LaBeouf!”
The victim explained that he had been stopped on the street prior to this attack “at least 10 times” in his life due to his resemblance to the actor.
“I wanna know what Shia LaBeouf did to [the suspect],” Licato questioned. “What did Shia LaBeouf do to him that he punched somebody that looks like him? He must have did something so mean. Did he steal his girlfriend? Did he just see his last performance art piece?”
The sucker punch rendered Licato unconscious and resulted in a misdemeanor, according to police. The suspect is still at large.
