Kristen Stewart to Make Her Directorial Debut At Last

K-Stew will soon be making her directorial debut, in partnership with Refinery29 and their new ShatterBox Anthology.

The Clouds of Sils Maria actress is one of twelve other directors, writers and animators who will be making short films focused on the “dynamic of power,” The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Refinery29 announced the news at its Digital Content NewFronts presentation on Monday evening.

Stewart’s original project is currently titled Water. Further details on K-Stew’s debut aren’t yet known, but we’ll keep you updated. Another director Refinery29 tapped is actress Chloe Sevigny, whose project, entitled Kitty, will be the first to debut. In addition, PreciousGabourey Sidibe is also making her directorial debut with a short called A Tale of Four Women.

Sidibe explained on stage that she making her move into directing because as an actress, “everything I do, my image and who I am and what I feel represents me is in the hands of a man, usually a white man … I realized very recently that I want to be the one that decides what image I show the public.”

Refinery29 also announced the launch of VR29 Studios (a virtual-reality production studio), two new YouTube channels (RIOT, a comedy channel, and Brawlers, which will cover women in sports), Facebook Live programming, and new initiatives for Instagram.

Also joining the initiative are Webby Awards co-founder Tiffany Shlain, America FerreraMeera Menon, Courtney Hoffman, Jessica Dimmock, Robin Cloud, Roja Gashtili, Julia Lerman and Anu Valia.
