Vanessa Hudgens: ‘Nothing Can Prepare You for Losing a Parent’

Vanessa Hudgens Continued Her Reign As Coachella Queen
Coachella’s first weekend has come and gone...

Vanessa Hudgens continues to mourn the loss of her dad.

In a candid new interview with People, the actress opened up about how her father’s passing came as a huge shock to her. “My dad passed away the night before my show [Grease: Live], and it was shocking. I knew that it was coming, but nothing can prepare you for losing a parent.” However, she reveals that it was cast mates that really helped her get through such a heartbreaking time.

“The thing that honestly got me through it was my community that I was surrounded by,” she said, speaking of her cast that included Julianne Hough and Keke Palmer. “Every day I came to work, they all hugged me, checked in on me, made sure I was doing okay.”

Although she knew that her father’s stage-four cancer was a serious matter, she always had hope that he’d make it through. “You think you’re going to make it through,” she said, “You’re there with them every step of the way, holding their hand, wanting it to be okay.”
