WATCH: Here’s Everything We Learned from the Season 4 Trailer of ‘Orange Is the New Black’
Season 4 of Orange Is the New Black is going to be intense, to say the least.
The new trailer of the Netflix show made its debut today, with the description: “Who will fight, and who will fall?” If that isn’t an indication that Season 4 is going to be dark, I don’t know what is.
First off, when we last saw Alex (Laura Prepon), her storyline ended in a cliffhanger as she was cornered in the prison’s greenhouse by Aydin, Kubra’s henchman. The first photos of OITNB Season 4 revealed that she is indeed part of the new season, and while she isn’t seen in the trailer, we hear her voice around 0:55 when she asks Red (Kate Mulgrew), “Can you keep a secret?”
Stella (Ruby Rose), Piper’s (Taylor Schilling) Season 3 love interest is likely not in this new season (she’s been thrown in Max, but neither Rose nor Netflix have confirmed whether or not she’ll be appearing), which means possibly Alex and Piper could be getting back together – do fans even ship them anymore?
Another character we’ve yet to see is Nicky (Natasha Lyonne). She’s not seen in the trailer, nor in any of the Season 4 photos…at the end of Season 3, Lyonne’s character was also put in Max after getting blamed for selling heroin with Luschek (Matt Peters) by Caputo (Nick Sandow). Fans, have hope: Lyonne did attend the Television Critics Association panel for the show.
As for everyone’s favorite corrections officer Bennett (Matt McGorry), he’s missing from the photos and this new trailer as well (come on, Netflix! Give us a hint). He disappeared in episode 2 of Season 3, essentially ditching Daya (Dascha Polanco) and their baby.
Next, Piper is seen going head to head with Maria Ruiz (Jessica Pimentel), who tells her “I am going to bury you” as they stare menacingly at one another. As for Sophia (Laverne Cox), she’s seen in solitary confinement still. You may remember that she was absent from the Season 3 finale after she was put in the SHU by Caputo.
Lastly, with Litchfield now being “for-profit” and under new management, there’s 100 new inmates to fit into the same space, stricter rules with scary guards, and from what we can see in the trailer, heavier drama. At one point, a group of officers dressed in full riot gear emerge from a van outside the prison, while the trailer ends under lockdown.
The final image of the trailer does not end in laughs: Piper is seen crying, Crazy Eyes (Uzo Aduba) is on a hospital bed, and a siren is blaring as the camera pans to the whole cast looking distraught AF.
Watch the trailer above to see all your faves and to get your first look at what’s about to be a crazy intense season.
Season 4 of OITNB premieres on Netflix on June 17.
