Taylor Swift Receives the First-Ever Taylor Swift Award
This was a unanimous decision.
Taylor Swift took home the first Taylor Swift Award at the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards on Tuesday (May 10) in addition to the accolade for Pop Songwriter of the Year. The award in her namesake recognizes her influence and creative talent; a feat accomplished only by Michael Jackson, who received the Michael Jackson Award in 1990. The 1989 singer’s second award comes as a result of “Bad Blood”, “Blank Space”, “Style” and “Wildest Dreams” being the year’s most-performed songs.
Swift attended the ceremony with her mom, dad and brother, and was welcomed with a standing ovation upon receiving her honors.
“This is just an unbelievable night,” she said. “I have this issue called songwriting … I know you have it too.”
“If they had chosen somebody else, I’d be, like, kind of bummed about it.”
