Twelve shows were given the axe yesterday, including Castle and Nashville.

It was a bloodbath at ABC and FOX, to say the least, with the networks going on a cancellation rampage in anticipation of next week’s upfronts presentations.

It was announced last month that Castle’s leading lady Stana Katic would not be reprising her role after the 8th season (leading to reports of on-set tension between her and the show’s lead Nathan Fillion), but nevertheless, the axe of ABC’s longtime-running show was a surprise for many fans.

ABC also cancelled Nashville, starring Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere who also announced yesterday that she would be seeking treatment for postpartum depression again.

Over at FOX, John Stamos and Rob Lowe’s shows Grandfathered and The Grinder respectively both got cancelled too.

Meanwhile, CBS’s cancellation of CSI: CYBER marks the end of the CSI franchise.
