Melissa Rivers Settles Lawsuit with Clinic Where Joan Rivers Stopped Breathing Prior to Her Passing

Justice is being served to the family of Joan Rivers.

Melissa Rivers issued a statement denoting that a lawsuit with Yorkville Endoscopy Center, a clinic where her mother stopped breathing prior to her death in 2014, has finally been settled.

“The lawsuit concerning my mother’s death has been settled,” said Melissa. “In accepting this settlement, I am able to put the legal aspects of my mother’s death behind me and ensure that those culpable for her death have accepted responsibility for their actions quickly and without equivocation.”

The comedienne’s daughter explains that her fight beyond the legal matters will be to serve justice to families who have endured similar trauma.”Moving forward, my focus will be to ensure that no one ever has to go through what my mother, [my son] Cooper and I went through and I will work towards ensuring higher safety standards in out-patient surgical clinics,” continued Rivers. “I want to express my personal gratitude to my legal team for their wise counsel and prompt resolution of this.”

Joan stopped breathing during throat surgery in August of 2014 and died a week later on Sept. 4 at the age of 81. Her daughter filed a lawsuit in January 2015 and has kept vocal about her pain ever since through blog posts.
