Céline Dion Used the Movie ‘Up’ to Explain René Angélil’s Death to Her Children
Céline Dion tapped on Disney to help her children cope with an otherwise abstract concept.
The singer tells People that she waited a few days after the passing of her husband, René Angélil, to tell her five-year-old twin sons with the assistance of the movie Up to help connect the dots. Dion threw a “glitter and balloon-filled party” to reveal that “Papa” had “gone up”, just like the balloons.
“I did not want to relate the passing to doctors and have them be afraid,” she says, honoring that this mechanism was the thing she’s “most proud of.”
“I see René in all three of them,” Dion continues, including her eldest son René-Charles Angélil. “Not one moment do I feel like they’re looking for him and questioning.”
René passed away at age 73 after losing a long-term battle with cancer.
