Tom Hanks on His Diet That Led to Type 2 Diabetes: ‘I Was a Total Idiot’

Tom Hanks Sued for Son's Car Accident
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson just got tagged for an accident their son, Chet Haze, had while driving mom and dad's car.

The beloved actor admits that, for decades, he didn’t take eating healthy seriously.

A few years ago, Tom Hanks revealed to David Letterman that he has type 2 diabetes. Now the two-time Oscar-winner is discussing his eating habits that landed him with the chronic condition.

“I’m part of the lazy American generation that has blindly kept dancing through the party and now finds ourselves with a malady,” he told the Radio Times. “I was heavy. You’ve seen me in movies. You know what I looked like. I was a total idiot.”

The 59-year-old actor explained all the small ways he’d attempt to make his meals healthier, ultimately admitting he wasn’t solving the problem.

“I thought I could avoid it by removing the buns from my cheeseburgers,” he said. “Well, it takes a little bit more than that.”

However, there’s hope for the Bridge of Spies star, if he can get control of his diet and his weight.

“My doctor says if I can hit a target weight, I will not have type 2 diabetes anymore,” Hanks said.

Here’s hoping he can lose the weight!
