Lauren Conrad Is Doing an Anniversary Special for ‘The Hills’ That No One Asked For

Because it’s the 10th anniversary of The Hills, we’re being blessed with an anniversary special that no one asked for.

It will be hosted by the one and only Lauren Conrad, star of both The Hills and its predecessor Laguna BeachConrad is nowadays a reality TV star turned… we’re not sure what. Fashion designer? Author? Lifestyle blogger? Et cetera, I guess.

This morning she tweeted the exciting, official news after teasing her fans on Instagram earlier in the week:

Never thought I’d see the day….

Entitled The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now, the anniversary special will reveal “some of the show’s best-kept secrets” and “reveal what it was really like living her pivotal years on camera,” according to E! News.

MTV’s show description adds, “As we reconnect with our favorite girl from Laguna, we realize she’s grown up to be a cultural icon… and she’s still not afraid to tell it like it is.”

Conrad revealed on her blog today (May 31, 2016) that she recently watched the pilot for The Hills for the first time in a decade. She also wrote in part about how difficult filming the show actually was:

Ten years ago, The Hills aired on MTV for the first time. (That’s right people, it’s been ten whole years! Can we all feel old together, please?) To celebrate this anniversary I decided to do something I haven’t done in over a decade; I watched the pilot episode of our show.

Even though I know how it all ends, it was a little difficult watching my younger self struggle—I was in way over my head! It was odd watching all of us just starting out, with no idea what the future held (although, no one really could have prepared us for what the next few years would bring).

Looking back, I am grateful for the incredible opportunity we were given to take part in this show. While it was hard at times to share my personal life (poor makeup choices and all) with the world; the experience taught me so much and forever altered my life and my outlook for the better.

Conrad, 30, is now married to former Something Corporate guitarist William Tell, who is now an entertainment lawyer.

Stay tuned for the special — which airs August 2, at 10 p.m.— of which Conrad adds:

We will be having an honest conversation about what it was really like living with cameras for so many years (spoiler alert: it was super weird), sharing some behind-the-scene secrets, and showing some of my life today. And since this is all for you, please let me know below if there are any questions you have or if there is anything you would like to see addressed.

The Hills ran for six seasons from May 31, 2006, until July 13, 2010. Conrad starred from seasons 1 through 5, leaving halfway through the fifth season. Her Laguna Beach “nemesis” Kristin Cavallari replaced her in season 6.
