Bobby Brown Recalls Whitney Houston Doing Drugs at Their Wedding
In a new clip from his 20/20 interview with Robin Roberts, which will air on Tuesday (June 7, 2016) in full, the New Edition singer recalls seeing his then-wife doing cocaine on their wedding day. According to him, that was the first time he had seen Houston do drugs as she “hunched over a bureau snorting a line of coke.”
“She wasn’t that, you know what I’m saying? The drugs weren’t her. She did drugs, but drugs didn’t do her,” he argued, explaining that Houston was more than just her drug addiction. “She knew how to handle herself. It only made me love and want to protect her more.”
After wiping away some tears, the 47-year-old then denied claims that he was the one who pushed drugs on Whitney.
“It wasn’t me,” he said. “It started [with] her. I take my part, and I take it hard for me even being a part of it, but we all have our own minds and some of us are stronger than others.”
Whitney accidentally drowned in a bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel in February 2012 with traces of marijuana, Xanax Flexeril and Benadryl found in her system. Three years later, Bobbi Kristina passed away at the age of 22 after she was found unresponsive in her bath in her Georgia home. According to the coroner, her death was caused by a combination of drowning and drug intoxication.
“It’s not a mystery to me the same thing that happened to my daughter is what happened to Whitney,” Bobby said. “There is only one person around both occasions.”
Since the preview’s release, Gordon’s attorney fired back at claims that his client had anything to do with either death, saying in a statement, “We have repeatedly said that Nick Gordon is innocent of any wrongdoing. He has not been charged with any crime. Enough is enough; let’s end this baseless speculation.”
Bobby and his family are currently in the midst of a $10 million lawsuit against Gordon, claiming that the 20-year-old had abused Bobbi Kristina and stolen her money prior to her death.
