Rachel Roy Reportedly Fled the CFDA Awards Just as Beyoncé Arrived
Becky, er, Rachel is not here for the drama.
On Monday night (Jun. 6, 2016), Beyoncé attended the CFDA Awards where she accepted a Fashion Icon Award, while Jay Z and Blue Ivy looked on. Monday also marked the first time the singer attended the same event as Rachel Roy, aka “Becky with the good hair,” since releasing her album Lemonade.
If you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know why this is significant, let us quickly explain. The song “Sorry” on Beyoncé’s recently-released album Lemonade calls out the woman Bey believes her husband has been cheating on her with, “Becky with the good hair.”
Fans immediately began speculating who the singer was talking about, and soon zeroed in on the designer, who was the woman allegedly at the center of Jay Z and Solange’s infamous elevator fight. So the Beyhive went on the attack, and even though Roy has denied any wrong doing, she’s never really been able to clear her name.
If you were hoping for a Bey/Becky show down you, 1) don’t know anything about Beyoncé, and 2) are about to be highly disappointed. Because not only did the singer and Roy not interact with each other at all, Roy left before Bey even graced the awards with her presence.
Page Six reports that a source who was presumably sitting at Roy’s table claims the designer left soon after Jay Z was spotted making his way inside and never cam back. “She disappeared with her place card and never came back,” they revealed. “It was weird. I don’t know if it was because she’s ‘Becky,’ or what?”
While the timing of her disappearance is certainly strange, a friend of the designer’s assured Page Six, she only left early to catch a flight.
