The actress is trying her hand at music with a new group and a danceable new single.
Evan Rachel Wood is not the first actor or actress to try and cross over to music. Ryan Gosling, Keanu Reeves, Jared Leto and many more have bridged the gap with varying success. But with Rebel and a Basketcase, Wood shows real potential. The duo, which also includes fellow actor Zach Villa, released their first music video today for a song entitled “Oh Yeah.”
The song is a whirring, angsty, dance floor gem that harkens back the era of The Breakfast Club, which makes sense considering the group’s band name is a nod to two of the film’s characters (those played by Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy).
Throughout the video, the newly-minted twosome dance and preen for the cameras in elaborate, colorful garb amidst images of electric currents and minimalist furniture. Is the 28-year-old actress ripping off David Bowie in the video? Probably, but it’s clear she and Villa have committed to their playful, vintage designs.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the group said they plan to release their debut album this fall and will be touring shortly after. So prepare for loads more glitter and synth!
