An Emotional Selena Gomez Pays Tribute to Christina Grimmie at Miami Concert

She couldn’t hold back the tears.

Selena Gomez dedicated a song to her longtime friend Christina Grimmie Saturday night while performing in Miami, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

On her Revival World Tour, People reports Gomez told the Miami audience, “When she was 14, we met her, and my parents and I signed her. One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her. And I think it’s not about a religion and it’s not about anything or good deeds. It’s just that she had faith, and I don’t really understand how this really happened, but I would like to dedicate this next song to her.”

Gomez sat at the piano and wiped away tears as she sang Hillsong Worship’s “Transfiguration.” Then while singing “Nobody,” Gomez had to stop for a moment to try to collect herself and was seen mouthing “I’m sorry” to her fans as she struggled to finish the song. An Instagram follower captured the moment:

Selena also posted a sweet photo of the two of them on Twitter earlier in the day, writing, “My heart is absolutely broken. I miss you Christina.”

The former Voice contestant was fatally shot by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl – who was quickly tackled by Grimmie’s brother Mark before shooting himself.

To add to the senseless violence, another horrific incident took place in Orlando. A mass shooting, killing at least 50 people, occurred early Sunday morning at a gay nightclub, just a few miles away from where Grimmie was killed.
