Taraji P. Henson: If I Do a Job as Well as a Man, Why Should My Pay Be Less?

The Empire actress is here to shatter all the glass ceilings!

Last night, (June 15, 2016) Hollywood’s female elite came together to honor excellence at the Women In Film 2016 Crystal + Lucy Awards presented by Max Mara and BMW. Actress Taraji P. Henson received the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television and decided to use her acceptance speech to remind those in attendance that the fight for equality among the sexes is far from over, especially in the entertainment industry.

“If I do a job just as well as a man, people tune-in every week, they see me, they root for me just like they root for him – why should my pay be less?” Henson said. “We’re all we got ladies. If we don’t support each other who will?”

Notable stars in attendance also included Claire Danes, Cate Blanchett, Kate Beckinsale, Natalie Dormer and many more.

The star-studded night began with SNL alum Chris Parnell stating, “One year from now we will be celebrating the first 100 days of the first female president” which received wild applause before he added, “Or we will be giving the Crystal Award to Melania Trump… or else.”
