Christina Grimmie Laid to Rest in New Jersey

Christina Grimmie is home.

The singer was buried in her home state of New Jersey on Thursday (June 16, 2016) after she was shot and killed by a gunman at her Orlando, Fla. concert last week. As previously reported, the services were paid for by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine, who was the late 22-year-old’s coach during her season on The Voice.

According to People, the private ceremony was an “intimate gathering for her family and close friends.” A candlelight vigil was also held in Evesham Township earlier this week.

“She loved this town, she loved this state, she loved singing, she loved the Lord and she loved me and she was my baby sister,” said Grimmie’s brother Marcus, who tackled his sister’s shooter to the ground shortly before her death.

A public memorial is being held at the Fellowship Alliance Chapel in Medford, New Jersey on Friday from 3-8 p.m. EST for fans who wish to pay their respects. An evening memorial service will start at 8 p.m.

Her killer, who killed himself after shooting Grimmie, was been identified as 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl of St. Petersburg, Fla. He was reportedly infatuated with the rising pop star and altered his appearance in hopes of winning her affections. Orlando Police said Loifl traveled to Orlando specifically to attack and kill Grimmie.
