David Bowie’s Hair Is Up for Auction

A lock of David Bowie’s iconic hair is being auctioned off, Associated Press reports. According to the auction house involved in the sale, the tresses is expected to fetch at least $4,000.

Heritage Auctions says the hair comes from a former a wig mistress at London’s Madame Tussauds Wax Museum who was put in charge of collecting a sample of Bowie’s mane so its color could be duplicated for the wig of the singer’s wax figure.

“I remember Mr. Bowie being very relaxed about the whole episode as I approached with scissors quivering,” Wendy Farrier wrote in a letter shared by Heritage Auctions.

The hair was obtained in 1983, and Farrier said she kept it as a souvenir after the project was completed.

The complete lot being auctioned off includes “a snippet of the singer’s pale blonde hair, tied together with blue thread, affixed to the upper left corner of a black and white photograph depicting Bowie standing next to the current owner.”

Bowie’s hair will go on the auction block Saturday in Beverly Hills, Calif. at the starting price of $2,000.

The music legend passed away this January after a battle with liver cancer. He was 69.
