LISTEN: Prince’s Unreleased Music Surfaces at Versace Runway Show

Prince’s legacy continues to live on.

Close friend Donatella Versace paid tribute to the late music icon at her latest runway show during Milan Fashion Week, playing never-before-heard tracks from the Purple One at during her menswear presentation.

The 11-minute mix is said to be comprised of new songs Prince had given to the fashion designer before his death earlier this year.

“I wanted to express my love and admiration for my friend who I miss so much. Celebrating him and his music at my menswear show seemed like the best way,” Versace told Billboard. “Prince was always writing and recording, even if it was just a late-night jam at Paisley Park. He had been sending me songs for years — it was his way of communicating. Just hearing his voice again makes me smile.”

She added, “It was a privilege and an honor to have Prince as my friend, and so it was my privilege to be able to share them with the audience. I wanted people to hear how playful he was, how joyous, how creative, how pure a genius. The biggest tribute you can pay to him is to play his music, and to keep his memory alive.”

Prince passed away on April 21 from an opioid overdose. He was 57.
