Darth Vader to Appear in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’

Though he wasn’t in trailer, Darth Vader will appear in the upcoming Star Wars stand-alone movie.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Dark Side baddie is set to make in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which takes place before the events in A New Hope and focuses on a group of Rebel spies on a mission to steal the plans for the Galactic Empire’s new weapon, the Death Star.

However, don’t expect the iconic villain to be the main threat. Apparently, there are other evil things reportedly lurking in the wings.

“Darth Vader kind of looms large over the plot even when he’s not necessarily on screen because the new villain played by Ben Mendlesohn, Director Krennic, [is] trying to fulfill the wishes of the Emperor and he’s got kinda Vader looming in the background over his shoulder, making sure that he gets the job done,” writer Anthony Breznican says.

The publication also confirms that Mads Mikkelsen will play the father of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso. Meanwhile, Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker is taking on the role of Saw Gerrera, a “shadowy freedom-fighter” with a keen insight to galactic history.

Also starring Diego Luna, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, and Riz Ahmed, the flick is due out Dec. 16.
