Oscar Pistorius Sentenced to Six Years in Prison for Murder of Girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp

Oscar Pistorius Found Guilty of Murder on Appeal
"Blade Runner" Oscar Pistorius has been convicted of murder.

After three years of trials and appeals, former Olympian Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in prison for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

USA Today reports:

Pistorius, 29, had faced a mandatory prison term of at least 15 years but South African Judge Thokozile Masipa said substantial and compelling circumstances allowed her to reduce the sentence.

“The life of the accused will never be the same. He is a fallen hero,” Masipa said.

She ordered a recess to enable prosecutors and Pistorius’ lawyers to decide if they wanted to appeal the sentence. Pistorius was immediately jailed.
