The Spice Girls Might Be Reuniting, but as a Trio Named GEM

The Spice Girls are kind of, sort of reuniting!

Here’s the deal: they’re two members short of their original five, and they have a new name. It still counts, we guess. Mel B, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton are now a trio going by GEM, appearing in a video thanking their fans.

“We have the best fans in the whole entire world,” Mel B. began.

“You’ve stood by us for twenty years, and we want to say a big thank you,” Halliwell added.

“We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there,” Bunton continued. And so, they’re throwing a 20th birthday party, and everyone is invited.

The text following their announcement proclaimed:

“Happy 20th birthday to all our fans. This is a celebration for you! We hope to tell you soon, what you want, what you really really want #WANNABE.”

The announcement comes 20 years after their hit video for “Wannabe” was released. That song that became the biggest-selling debut single by a female group ever.

There’s been speculation of a Spice Girls reunion for a while now, with Mel B. teasing last month that there wouldn’t be a reunion until next year. The ladies haven’t come together as a full group since they performed 2012 Olympics in London.

We know, we miss Victoria Beckham and Mel C. too. Relive the good old days by watching the music video for “Wannabe” below:
