More Than 70 Killed After Truck Plows Through Crowd During Bastille Day Celebrations
At least 70 people have been killed and 100 more injured in Nice, France after a truck drove into a crowd celebrating Bastille Day this Thursday night.
Local newspaper Nice-Matin is reporting that a vehicle ran into a large group of people while they watched a fireworks display on the Promenade des Anglais, according to NBC News. Christian Estrosi, the regional mayor of Nice and head of the regional council of Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur, has also confirmed that the death toll is in the “dozens” on his Twitter.
“The driver fired on the crowd, according to the police who killed him,” Estrosi tells local Tv network BFM TV. “The truck was loaded with arms, loaded with grenades.”

Videos of the attack have since surfaced online, showing people running away from the scene. An eyewitness tells the Associated Press that it was absolute “carnage on the road” and there were “bodies everywhere.”
“It doesn’t look like this is some horrible accident,” Bob Franken, an NBC News producer at the scene, says, adding that he “personally saw over a dozen [people] mowed down.”
