Tom Hiddleston on Taylor Swift Relationship: ‘It’s Not a Publicity Stunt’
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor, who got nominated for an Emmy in his role on AMC’s The Night Manager, said that his relationship with the “Bad Blood” singer is very much real and not a ploy to drum up press for Swift now that she’s not touring.
“How best to put this? That notion is — look, the truth is that Taylor Swift and I are together, and we’re very happy,” he told the publication. “Thanks for asking. That’s the truth. It’s not a publicity stunt.”
After photos of the two kissing surfaced, many were quick to speculate that the couple known as Hiddleswift are faking their whirlwind romance for attention. In only the span of less than a month, Hiddleston, 35, and Swift, 26, had introduced one another to their respective families and traveled together to three different continents, four different countries, and three different states.
Swift’s ex-boyfriend Calvin Harris was even said to be suspecting that his 15-month relationship with Swift had been a publicity stunt since the songstress quickly moved onto Hiddleston following their abrupt breakup. Recently, the Scottish DJ put Swift on blast, accusing her of planting stories to make him look bad (and generally being a Regina George in sheep’s clothing).
“I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do,” Harris tweeted. “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry. I won’t allow it.”
According to recent reports, Swift allegedly broke things off with Harris when she wasn’t happy with the way he was promoting his single, “This Is What You Came For.” Word has it that Swift was mad at Harris after he told the press that he couldn’t see a collaboration happening despite the fact that Swift wrote the dance track with Harris under a pseudonym.
“I wrote the music, produced the song, arranged it and cut the vocals though. And initially she wanted it kept secret, hence the pseudonym,” Harris wrote on Twitter. “Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though.”
Swift first met Hiddleston at this year’s Met Gala while she was still dating Harris. She broke things off with then-boyfriend in late May. Weeks later, Swift was photographed kissing Hiddleston on a beach at her Rhode Island estate.
