Chris Hemsworth to Star in ‘Star Trek 4′

The next installment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise is doubling up on its Chris star power. Chris Hemsworth, who briefly appeared in the prologue of 2009’s Star Trek as Captain James T. Kirk’s father, will now return to the saga as a co-star.

Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot have announced that Hemsworth will reprise his role for a more significant storyline involving Chris Pine’s character. The plot reads as follows:

Pine’s Captain Kirk will cross paths with a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father.

The remaining cast — Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and Simon Pegg — are all expected to return without Anton Yelchin, who died in a tragic accident at the age of 27 this year.

J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are slated to pen the new script, while J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber will produce through Bad Robot Productions.

No release date has been given. Meanwhile, the franchise’s third installment, Star Trek Beyond, opens in theaters July 22.
