Macaulay Culkin Responds to Heroin Addiction Rumors

Macaulay Culkin is finally speaking out about rumors surrounding an alleged heroin addiction. After he was photographed looking a scruffy and gaunt in 2012, the former child star’s health made tabloid headlines.

So, should we be worried that he may have a drug problem?

“Not necessarily. Of course, when silly stuff is going on — but no, I was not pounding six grand of heroin every month or whatever,” he tells The Guardian, referring to a report that he would be dead in six months due to a heroin addiction. “The thing that bugged me was tabloids wrapping it all in this weird guise of concern. No, you’re trying to shift papers.”

Culkin, who has arguably been famous for his whole life, adds that he doesn’t get why the world is still fascinated by him. Despite actively avoiding the spotlight — he spends most of his year in France and constantly turns down requests for interviews — these days, there are still people out there who can’t get enough of learning about his private life.

“The paps go after me because I don’t whore myself out,” he says. “I was thinking about this the other day — I’d crossed the wrong street, picked up a tail, suddenly there’s a crush of 20 paparazzi. Then people with cameraphones get involved. I don’t think I’m worthy of that.”

“It’s been like that my whole adult life. You take on a prey-like attitude, always scanning the horizon. It’s strange on dates, as it looks like you’re not paying attention. But I’ve stopped trying to think of myself in the third person, because that’s just gonna drive me nuts,” he continues. “Macaulay Culkin is out there, and I’m Mac. You guys can play with the first one.”
