This weekend, the third installment in the rebooted Star Trek series soars into theaters with a new adventure for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The previews offer battles, high-wire suspense and no shortage of humor, so assuming your interest in piqued, here’s all the info on this new release.

Who’s in it?

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and John Cho all reprise their roles. And Idris Elba appears in the film as the terrifying new baddie Krall. Anton Yelchin, who died tragically in a bizarre incident last month, appears one last time as the Russian chief engineer Pavel Chekov.

What’s it about?

The crew is attacked and forced to land on a mysterious planet where a merciless dictator (Elba) seeks them out for an ancient object located on their damaged ship. Kirk and his crew must defend themselves and somehow get off the desolate world.

Why should I care?

Look, science fiction ain’t for everybody but this cast and writing team have made sure that this franchise doesn’t just please the nerds, but newcomers and non-fans in the audience as well. It’s got a lovable team fighting to survive while exploring outer space. ‘Nuff said.
