Chris Pine Explains That One Time Idris Elba Gave Him a Real Black Eye While Filming ‘Star Trek Beyond’
Things might have gotten a little too rough on set!
Actors Idris Elba and Chris Pine sat down with People at Comic-Con to discuss staging all the physical fights for their new movie Star Trek Beyond and it turns out Elba, who plays the film’s lizard-like villain Krall, accidentally gave his co-star a shiner.
“Chris Pine and I actually got a little too physical and he ended up with a black eye – which ended up in the movie, by the way!” Elba revealed.
“It was great,” Pine added, clearly not minding the minor injury. “He gave me a black eye, and that was fun, and we used that. He’s a big guy and we tussled and threw some fake punches. All in a day’s work!”
Elba also explained the excitement he felt getting to be the one doing battle with the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the new film.
“Fighting Captain Kirk was definitely like, ‘What?!'” Elba shared. “All the Captain Kirk fights are always iconic, and here I was in the middle of one. It was great!”
And it turns outs that Pine not only didn’t mind getting clocked in the eye, but he also wore the shiner like a badge of honor.
“He thanked me,” said Elba with a chuckle. “He goes, ‘I’ve never had a black eye before. I’m really cool!'”
