WATCH: Sarah Silverman Tells ‘Bernie or Bust’ People They’re ‘Being Ridiculous’ at the DNC

After shooing Al Franken out of her frame at the Democratic National Convention, Sarah Silverman explained her support of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race.

Silverman opened her speech on Monday (July 25, 2016) with a message to staunch supporters of Bernie Sanders, the candidate for whom she has long advocated, that received a strong audience reaction.

“Can I just say to the ‘Bernie or Bust’ people: You’re being ridiculous,” began Silverman. “I support Bernie Sanders and the movement behind him … Hillary heard the passion of the passion, the people behind Bernie, and brought those passions into the party’s platform and that is the process of democracy at its very best.”

Silverman continued, “I will vote for Hillary with gusto as I continue to be inspired and moved to action by the ideals set forth by Bernie who will never stop fighting for us.”

The comedienne later told CNN that her “ridiculous” remark “wasn’t scripted at all,” and that the DNC’s stagehands told her and Franken to stretch their time onstage because the program was running ahead of schedule.

“I think most Sanders supporters are reasonable people who think, you know, Bernie and Hillary have so much in common. They have a lot of the same values,” added Silverman.
