Ansel Elgort Wanted to Avoid ‘Abusing’ His Star Status to Book Music Gigs

In case you didn't know, Ansel Elgort is a singer too.

Ansel Elgort wanted people to like his music without the stigma attached to actors who become musicians.

That’s one of the main reason the actor-turned-DJ used a pseudonym in order to book gigs at well-known music festivals. Although the Fault in Our Stars actor officially confirmed his career as a DJ, releasing his first single “Home Alone” earlier this month, for years he went by the name Ansolo.

“I really respect the dance music industry. I didn’t want to come in and abuse the fact I was an actor and use my name to book gigs,” he revealed to People. “I’m not getting into music because I need to – I have a bunch of movies coming out. I just do this because I love it.”

“I think there’s always gonna be some sort of stigma, because for whatever reason, society likes to say, ‘He’s an actor, so that’s what he does, and he’s not allowed to venture outside of that,'” Elgort, 22, added. “But I just wanted to make something I loved and put it out. I don’t want the peak of my career to be when I was 19 years old and in that one movie.”

Now, not only has he landed himself a record deal with Island Records, but he currently has four new movies in production. Clearly, he’s not letting the “actor stigma” hold him back.
