Debra Messing Apologizes to Blake Shelton After Implying That He Supports Donald Trump

Lady Gaga, Amy Schumer and More Celebs Praise Hillary Clinton's DNC Speech
It's official: Hillary Clinton is the Democratic candidate.

The TV actress is walking back some heated comments directed at The Voice coach.

Debra Messing offered an apology yesterday after angrily calling out Blake Shelton for, at least in her eyes, supporting Donald Trump.

The controversy began with the publication of a new Billboard interview with Shelton in which he was asked about a conservative website claiming he supports the controversial Republican presidential candidate.

I’m not going to have the political conversation with you about Trump, or about Hillary Clinton, but I will tell you this: Whether you love him or hate him, he says what he thinks, and he has proven that you don’t always have to be so afraid. A lot of people are pulling for him, no matter how much Hollywood fights it. I see people who don’t like him go and beat up people that do like him. You tell me, who’s crazy here?” He added, “I probably wish there was another option, but there’s not.”

The article appeared to get under Messing’s skin, prompting her to write in a since-deleted tweet directed at Shelton’s new girlfriend Gwen Stefani, “Omg. How? @gwenstefani please talk to your man to not vote for the person who will strip you of your rights.”

Shelton responded, reinforcing that he isn’t happy with either of his options in the upcoming presidential election.

“Hey before this gets going like it always does… I haven’t enforced (sic) ANYBODY for president. And I not going to. I don’t do that shit,” he wrote. “My comment about ‘wish there was another option but there’s not’ is across the board…period. Now go dig up another story.”

In less than an hour, the Will & Grace starlet apologized, admitting her passion in this heated election effected her judgment.

Shelton responded by thanking the actress and stating he doesn’t endorse candidates because it often ignites these types of debates.
