Channing Tatum Will Play a Merman in ‘Splash’ Remake

Disney’s upcoming remake of 1984’s Splash isn’t going to be just any ol’ reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Channing Tatum has been cast as the film’s merman, taking on Daryl Hannah’s old role as the underwater love interest.

Meanwhile, Jillian Bell, who starred alongside Tatum in 22 Jump Street, will play the character originally portrayed by Tom Hanks.

In the original flick, Hanks played a man who as a young boy was saved from drowning by a mermaid (Hannah). After 20 years, the mermaid finds the boy she once saved and gives him the option live on land or join her under the sea.

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will produce the remake along with Tatum himself. So far, no release date has been announced.
