Is Frank Ocean Ever Going to Release His New Album or What?
Frank Ocean got fans all riled up again when he updated his website with a mysterious livestream, prompting rumors that his now-twice-overdue album is finally being released.
The internet became a-buzz with hype around 3:30 a.m. EST when a black-and-white video with the Apple Music logo appeared on Ocean’s website, Boys Don’t Cry. The clip, which at first was just an empty room, showed with a man constructing something on a workbench as soft instrumental music played in the background.
Needless to say, fans were all like, “But what does this even MEAN?!”
Ocean’s new album will be the follow-up to 2012’s Channel Orange, which won the singer a Grammy Award for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
The record was previously slated to be released in July 2015. Later, Ocean had teased that the sophomore LP — said to be titled Boys Don’t Cry — would be out July 2016. Both projected “release dates” since passed without any new material from Ocean.
UPDATE: The New York Times is reporting that Ocean’s new album, Boys Don’t Cry, is expected to come out on Friday. It will be an Apple Music exclusive for two weeks, and will include “a major video.”
