Is a Live-Action ‘Star Wars’ TV Show Coming to ABC?

Daisy Ridley turned off her Instagram account after getting negative feedback on a post about gun control.

The network is apparently in talks to bring Star Wars to primetime television!

Admit it, you would absolutely watch a live-action show based in the universe of Darth Vader and Princess Leia, and TV bigwigs are doing everything they can to make it a reality.

Oh, as a fan, I would absolutely love to say ‘Yes,’” ABC’s entertainment president Channing Dungey said at the Television Critics Association’s semi-annual press tour in Beverly Hills, via Entertainment Weekly. “The conversations with Lucas, we have had conversations with them and will continue to have conversations with them. I think it would be wonderful if we could find a way to extend that brand into our programming.”

It sounds as though Lucasfilm is protecting their property pretty carefully, which definitely makes sense; Star Wars: The Force Awakens made over $2 billion since its release.

“It’s all a little bit hush-hush,” Dungey said after panel. “That company exists under a big shroud of secrecy. If you feel Marvel’s secretive, [Lucasfilm] takes it to a whole other level … [Talks] are ongoing. We don’t have an official timeline yet.”

Adapting George Lucas’ vision for TV is not a new idea. A producer named Rick McCallum championed it for years but ultimately it was never greenlit due to the high cost of producing such a show.

But perhaps now there’s a new hope!
