Laverne Cox on How She Got into Shape for ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’
Laverne Cox is pretty jazzed about playing mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in FOX’s remake of the cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show – but she did have to keep in shape to fit into those tight, fish-netted costumes.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour on Wednesday, Cox admitted her sweet tooth was a problem. “I’m trying not to eat sugar myself, [but] I succumb often. I succumbed yesterday, to the sugar craving.”
Cox said she had to come up with a strategy. “[I] have people eating sugar describe it to me.”
The Orange Is the New Black star also talked about the pressures of playing the iconic role, originally played by Tim Curry in the 1975 film. “It was tons of pressure. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever done in my life, but it was really fun and it was really gratifying and we had such a good time.”
She added, “We loved that movie so much and I hope everyone feels the love that we have for the material and the reverence that we pay to the original film.” Watch Cox’s whole interview below!
