First Images of Jennifer Lawrence and Christ Pratt in Sci-fi Romance ‘Passengers’ Arrive
Buckle your seatbelt…
Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are arguably the two biggest actors on the planet at the moment, and as fate would have it, they are teaming up for a new film about leaving this planet behind. Today (Aug. 12, 2016), Entertainment Weekly revealed the first images from the forthcoming Passengers that tease an enticing new high-concept romance.
The film centers on the Starship Avalon, a spaceship taking 5,259 individuals from Earth to a colony on a faraway planet. The journey takes 120 years, so all the would-be colonists make the journey in medical hibernation.
Due to a malfunction, Jim (Pratt) and Aurora (Lawrence) wake up prematurely and find themselves 90 years from their final destination. As the two fall in love, they discover that the ship is failing, potentially risking everyone on board’s lives.
“Most of the shooting was just with Chris and Jen,” director Morten Tyldum told EW. It was a very technical film with big sets and a lot of effects but at the same time, it’s a character drama. It’s a love story. It has the complexity of a big movie and at the same time we really had to put time aside to put into character development. And it’s exhausting. They were on every day. It’s big emotions: it’s desperation, it’s love, it’s happiness, it’s fear, it’s anger. It was big emotions every day.”
Passengers arrives Dec. 21, 2016.
