Simone Biles’ Balance Beam Stumble Ends Her Quest for Five Golds in Rio
Simone Biles lost her balance on the balance beam. The 19-year-old’s run at Olympic history came to an end on Monday (Aug. 14, 2016) when an error on the balance beam kept the U.S. gymnastics star from a record-tying fourth gold during the 2016 Rio Games. She did, however, win a bronze medal, which is an achievement on its own.
Biles was in the middle of her routine when she landed awkwardly and had to bend down and hold onto the beam with her hands to avoid falling. The bright side in all this is that she will get another shot at gold on Tuesday (Aug. 16, 2016) in the floor exercise final.
Meanwhile, Netherlands’ Sanne Wevers earned gold and USA’s Laurie Hernandez took home silver; however, many people believe that she was robbed. The 16-year-old delivered a near-perfect beam routine, which earned her a score of 15.333, while Wevers held top spot with a score of 15.466. So close, yet not good enough for the judges.
Biles did post this throwback on Instagram, which will make everyone feel better.
