Selena Gomez Says Fashion Designers Never Used to Think of Her as Their ‘Top Choice’
Selena Gomez has become a fashion designer’s dream, but it didn’t used to be that way.
In the September issue of Vogue, Gomez explained, “I wasn’t always the [designers’] top choice.” Now, however, she has teamed up with Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s creative director, to be the latest face of the brand.
Apparently, the singer sought Ghesquière out, getting his email address from a mutual friend and dashed off a letter of introduction. “I was immediately intrigued by her spontaneity and curiosity,” the Louis Vuitton creative director remembered.
“Actually, he loved my song ‘Good for You,’ ” Gomez added. “That was the real icebreaker.”
Gomez said about her style choices, “I like to find things that are unconventional and make them look classic because if I’m forcing something, you can just tell.”
Her stylist Kate Young concurred. “Vuitton especially can be tricky – it’s futuristic; it has straps all over it. But Selena’s version looks young and cool and less conceptual. She makes fashion suit her demeanor.”
